Surron Light Bee vs. Ultra Bee: Which Model is Right For You?

Electric dirt bikes are picking up speed across Australia, and for good reason. They’re easy to ride, low on maintenance, and packed with the kind of instant torque that keeps things exciting on the trail. At Surron, we’re proud to be leading the charge with a lineup of e-bikes that deliver serious performance without the noise, heat, or hassle of conventional petrol bikes.

The Light Bee and Ultra Bee are two of our most popular models, and while they share the same DNA, they’re built for different kinds of riders. Choosing between them depends on how much power you want, where you plan to ride, and the features that matter most to you. In this guide, we’ll take a closer look at both models to help you decide which one fits your needs best.

Meet the Models.

Surron Light Bee X

The Light Bee X electric dirt bike is lightweight, versatile, and built for off-road riding. It’s our most agile model, designed for quick handling and responsive control across dirt trails, farm tracks, and open paddocks. It’s perfect for both low-speed cruising and faster trail runs. With a stripped-back design and a 57kg frame, it’s easy to lift and transport and great for riders still building confidence.

Ultra Bee

The Ultra Bee electric motorcycle brings more power, more control and more ride tech. It’s available in three versions: the Ultra Bee R, which is ADR-approved and ready for the road, the Ultra Bee T, an ADR-approved trail variant, and the Ultra Bee X HP, a high-performance off-road model tuned for advanced riders. All three versions deliver a serious upgrade in power and ride feel, with additional modes, higher torque and more advanced features throughout.

Performance Comparison

The Light Bee X is powered by a 60V 40Ah battery and peaks at 8kW, with a top speed of 75 km/h and a maximum range of around 75 kilometres. It delivers 266 Nm of torque and weighs just 57 kilograms. With Eco and Sport ride modes, it’s simple to ride and is built for fun. Whether you’re exploring trails or getting in a few laps on a backyard circuit, it’s nimble, responsive and ready to go.

Traction control is built in for added grip across different ride conditions.

Design and Build

Both bikes feature lightweight aluminium construction and are built around a forged aluminium frame for strength and stability without unnecessary weight. The Light Bee X rolls on 18-inch rear and 19-inch front wheels with CST off-road tyres and has a seat height of 830 mm. Ground clearance sits at 270 mm, with 200 mm of front suspension travel and 87 mm at the rear, making it ideal for lighter riders and tighter tracks.

The Ultra Bee features a larger frame, 19-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels, and a taller 910 mm seat height. Ground clearance is increased to 318 mm, with 240 mm of travel in both the front and rear suspension. The additional size and clearance help the bike hold its line at higher speeds and tackle more technical terrain with ease.

Technology and Features

The Light Bee X includes a sine wave controller, electric regenerative braking, LED lighting, and a clear LCD display for key ride stats. It also has a USB port for charging your phone or GPS on the go. Everything is designed to be simple and effective without adding bulk or complexity.

The Ultra Bee takes things further with a more advanced controller, multi-function LCD display and Surron’s own traction control system. Riders also get the Braking Energy Regeneration System (BERS) and extra ride modes, including Turbo and Crawl, on the X HP model. These features give you more control and flexibility across a wider range of terrain and riding styles, making the Ultra Bee X HP the go-to for riders chasing unmatched thrills in off-road performance.

Road Legality and Compliance

The Ultra Bee R and T are fully ADR-approved, making them legal for use on public roads across Australia. It’s the go-to choice for riders looking for a bike that can handle both weekday commutes and weekend trail riding. The Ultra Bee X HP, by contrast, is designed for off-road use only. It’s not road-legal and is best suited for motocross tracks, bush riding and private property.

The Light Bee X is also an off-road model and not ADR-compliant. It’s a great fit for farms, paddocks and trail networks that don’t require road registration.

The Light Bee X is priced at approximately $7,490 AUD, offering excellent value for riders seeking an accessible, lightweight off-road bike. It’s easy to transport, simple to maintain and delivers a solid mix of performance and practicality for newer or younger riders.
